What Does Amor Fati Mean?

Love Fate.

When you accept that things happen and we don’t always have control over those things we can begin to stop worrying. Things happen to us, good and bad, there is nothing you can do about it. Let it happen and know that you have the strength to deal with it.

Worrying is like a rocking chair. It gives you something to do but it doesn’t get you anywhere.

Van Wilder

Yes I just used one of Ryan Reynolds first movies, the hilarious Van Wilder : Party Liaison as a quote. I’m not worried about it.

Amor Fati encourages us to use our energy and our emotions only where we can have real control and impact. Worrying or stressing about something that you can’t change is a waste of energy, especially if said “thing” hasn’t even happened.

But not worrying is hard.

Fuck yes it’s hard. Nothing good comes easy.

But like everything in life, the more you do it, the easier it becomes.

If you’ve ever read the book by Mark Manson “The Subtle Art of Not Giving A Fuck” you’ll understand that in life, sometimes you need to worry about the things you can control, not the things you can’t. They’ll happen either way.

What Does Amor Fati Mean?

If something bad is going to happen, guess what, it’s going to happen whether you want it to or not. Amor Fati is the act of embracing whatever comes at you and accepting it, dealing with it and moving on.

Yes, this is a lesson you won’t learn first time. It’s something that will take practise, dedication and patience.

Amor Fati is one of Stoicisms biggest lessons and it’s not to be taken lightly. Similar to Memento Mori, to get the most from life you have to accept that death will come, but before death comes everything else.
